Use customer-published supplier lists as an independent relationship and facility-location evidence layer without treating historical list presence as current quantitative exposure.

A proprietary supply-chain relationship becomes more informative when a customer-published supplier list independently confirms the counterparty. The two sources still answer different questions. Altsets estimates the SK Hynix to Apple relationship at 8.75% of SK Hynix revenue and 1.76% of Apple's cost base.

Apple's fiscal-year 2023 supplier list separately identifies SK hynix Incorporated as an Apple supplier. That public list does not quantify the relationship. It does provide independent historical evidence that the commercial connection existed.

Supplier lists are validation sources, not substitutes for relationship metrics

A customer-published supplier list can confirm supplier identity, customer relationship, manufacturing locations, and historical presence in the supply chain. It usually does not reveal relationship size, supplier revenue concentration, customer cost concentration, exact products, contract terms, or current purchase volume. Altsets and the supplier list therefore complement each other.

One adds economic measurement. The other adds customer-published evidence.

Apple's list also adds location detail

The FY23 Apple supplier list identifies SK hynix manufacturing for Apple in Chongqing and Jiangsu in China, plus Chungcheongbuk-Do and Gyeonggi-Do in South Korea. That is more granular than simply saying SK Hynix is a South Korean company. Facility geography can matter for trade restrictions, logistics, regional power risk, water risk, labor regulation, natural disasters, and country-specific policy.

Historical supplier lists need point-in-time discipline

The Apple list is an FY23 document. It should not be presented as proof that the same facility set is unchanged in 2026. A supplier can add a plant, close a plant, shift production, lose business, gain business, or remain a supplier through different facilities.

The correct statement is that Apple publicly identified SK hynix and those manufacturing locations in its FY23 supplier list. Current relationship evidence should come from current data.

Name normalization matters

Apple's list uses the name "SK hynix Incorporated." Another dataset can use "SK Hynix," local-language variants, abbreviations, or security identifiers. Entity resolution has to determine whether the records refer to the same economic company. A strong validation workflow preserves the source name and the normalized entity separately.

Facility presence does not identify the supplied product

SK Hynix publicly sells several memory categories. Its current product portfolio includes HBM for AI infrastructure and LPDDR products for mobile devices. The Apple supplier list does not say which exact products came from each listed facility.

A facility match therefore cannot be turned into an unsupported product claim. Product-specific evidence requires another source.

A supplier list can catch relationship errors

Customer-published lists are useful as one verification layer. If a proprietary relationship appears in the graph and the customer independently names the supplier, confidence increases. If the supplier is absent, that does not automatically mean the relationship is wrong.

The list can be incomplete, historical, thresholded, or scoped to major manufacturing suppliers. Absence and contradiction are not the same thing.

Supplier lists can improve geography research

Company domicile is often too coarse for supply-chain risk. The Apple-SK Hynix example shows how a customer list can reveal manufacturing activity across multiple countries for one supplier relationship. That creates better questions about which facility serves the relationship today, whether production can move between countries, whether facilities face the same regulation, and whether the location mix has changed over time.

A repeatable supplier-list validation workflow

  1. Retrieve the proprietary supplier-customer edge.
  2. Preserve the source company names.
  3. Search customer-published supplier lists.
  4. Match legal entities carefully.
  5. Record the list's reporting period.
  6. Extract manufacturing locations where available.
  7. Keep historical list evidence separate from current relationship status.
  8. Do not infer exact products without product-specific evidence.
  9. Treat absence from a list as inconclusive unless the list claims complete coverage.
  10. Store the external validation as another evidence layer.
